Sport and Recreation in Spotlight

4 May 2018

West Coast Mayor Phil Vickers has invited the West Coast Community to provide feedback as part of a Sport and Recreation Review.

Consultants Tredwell Management have been appointed to undertake the review, which is funded by Council and supported by a generous donation by Petuna Aquaculture.

“This review of the West Coast Council Sport and Recreation Plan 2010-2020 will look at the progress already made based on the plan’s initial recommendations, while identifying new opportunities or challenges that face West Coast residents,” Mayor Vickers said.

“Undertaking this process will help ensure we have the best strategy for the wide range of sport and recreation opportunities available to West Coast residents and visitors whether it be Council or privately-owned facilities or natural setting such as rivers, lakes and parks.”

Tredwell Managing Partner Neil Tredwell said his team couldn’t wait to work closely with the West Coast community to plan for its future sport and recreation opportunities.

“Our vision is to create an environment in which every member of the community can be become truly connected, happy and active,” Mr Tredwell said.

“The development of the Sport and Recreation Strategy is the first important step towards achieving this.

“With a well-researched and comprehensive plan behind them, the West Coast community can work towards enhancing sport and recreation facilities and programs, which will foster the area’s strong sporting culture and world-class recreation opportunities.”

Petuna’s CEO Ruben Alvarez said Petuna was pleased to support this review of the West Coast Sport and Recreation Plan.

“We see effective community engagement with sport and recreational activity as not only beneficial to the health and lifestyle of the community in which we work, but also as vital to the social environment of the West Coast Community,” Mr Alvarez said.

“We commend the West Coast Council for initiating this review and look forward to seeing the results further strengthen the Region’s appeal as a great place to live.”
