Queenstown Airport Hosts RYDA Event

12 March 2015

West Coast youth participated in a driver awareness program at the Queenstown Airport on 11th March.

West Coast Council has progressed plans to expand the use of the Queenstown Airport to facilitate events, with the hire of the Airport for this program the first such use since Council’s resolution in February to include the area as a facility available to hire.

The Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) Program was hosted by the Rotary Club of Devonport North and is part of Rotary’s ongoing involvement in ensuring the RYDA Program is accessible for young people.

West Coast high school students completed the program, with John Cook from Rotary Club of Devonport North saying “the Queenstown Airport was the perfect location for hosting the program”.

“It’s fantastic that Council is able to provide access to this facility for such events whilst still maintaining the primary purpose of the facility as being able to accommodate aircraft landings”,  Council General Manager Dirk Dowling said.  “We look forward to facilitating more event hire in the future as Council works to lift the profile of the West Coast”.
