West Coast Volunteers To Be Recognised

22 May 2018

West Coast Mayor Phil Vickers said Council would be recognising volunteers across the West Coast next week as part of National Volunteer Week.

Mayor Vickers said while the Council would be again hosting an event to recognise volunteers, there was a bonus this year.

“Council has launched a Facebook group called ‘West Coast Volunteers’ as a central place for West Coast Volunteers to connect and share ideas, to share information about upcoming events, to reach out to potential volunteers, and to let the wider community know about the varied and vibrant volunteer landscape on the West Coast,” Mayor Vickers said.

“Along with a Civic Reception next Wednesday 23 May, Council will be using this page to share some of the stories from volunteers in our community as well as to celebrate the contribution of volunteers here on the West Coast.”

Mayor Vickers said volunteering was a key part of the community.

“Volunteers play an essential role in ensuring we can provide a range of services, sport and recreation and other opportunities here on the West Coast,” Mayor Vickers said.

“Putting your hand up to volunteer is a great way to be involved in the community, make a difference and share skills and knowledge.”

Mayor Vickers encouraged volunteers and organisations working with volunteers to attend next week’s Volunteer recognition event at the Zeehan Scout Hall on Wednesday 23 May from 5.30pm until 6.30pm. Light refreshments will be provided.

Volunteers and others attending are asked to RSVP to cdeo@westcoast.tas.gov.au
