Sport and Recreation Review

Sport and Recreation Review

West Coast Council invites the West Coast Community to provide feedback as part of a Sport and Recreation Review.

Consultants Tredwell Management have been appointed to undertake the review, which is funded by Council and supported by a generous donation by Petuna Aquaculture.

The review of the West Coast Council Sport and Recreation Plan 2010-2020 will look at the progress already made based on the plan’s initial recommendations, while identifying new opportunities or challenges that face West Coast residents.

Undertaking this process will help ensure we have the best strategy for the wide range of sport and recreation opportunities available to West Coast residents and visitors whether it be Council or privately-owned facilities or natural setting such as rivers, lakes and parks.

The Sport and Recreation Plan Review will include, but is not limited to:

  • Review of the recommended strategies and actions indicated in West Coast Council Sport and Recreation Plan 2010-2020.
  • Assessment of the current usage of West Coast sports and recreation facilities.
  • Consultation with the community on current and perceived future usage of sports and recreation facilities.
  • Designing strategies that include opportunities for collaboration and resource sharing between sporting and recreation groups.
  • Detailing action plans for providing quality sport and recreation opportunities for the communities of the West Coast as well as visitors.

The project management team will consist of the West Coast Council General Manager and the Community Development and Events Officer.

The review will be completed by 30 June 2018 with the community encouraged to have their say via community consultation sessions which will be held in five towns on the following dates and times:

  • Monday 14 May - West Coast Council Chambers, Queenstown from 6pm-7.30pm
  • Tuesday 15 May - Zeehan Neighbourhood Centre from 6pm-7.30pm
  • Wednesday 16 May - Strahan Golf Club, Strahan from 6pm-7.30pm
  • Thursday 17 May - Rosebery Community House, Rosebery from 6pm-7.30pm
